Terms of Use
These terms govern your use of Mustami — the Mustami iOS app and the web player at mustami.app (together, “Mustami”, “the app”). Mustami is published by Mustami (“we”, “us”).
By installing or using Mustami you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to them, please do not use the app.
1. What Mustami is
Mustami is a free Quran audio player. It lets you browse reciters, stream and download recitations, follow the Arabic text and translations, build playlists, and set a sleep timer.
Mustami is a listening tool. It is not a religious authority, a substitute for scholarly instruction, or a certified mushaf.
2. Your licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Mustami for your own personal, non-commercial listening, on devices you own or control.
For the iOS app, this licence sits alongside Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which also applies to your use of the app. Where these terms and Apple’s standard EULA conflict on a point Apple’s EULA governs, Apple’s EULA prevails on that point.
3. What you may not do
You may not:
- redistribute, rebroadcast, resell or publicly perform the recitations obtained through Mustami, or extract the audio catalogue in bulk;
- use automated means to scrape, mirror or systematically download content from the app or from the services it connects to;
- reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble the app, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits it;
- remove or obscure any credit, attribution or copyright notice;
- use Mustami in any way that is unlawful, or that interferes with the app or with the third-party services it relies on.
4. Content, sources and attribution
The recitations available in Mustami are streamed and downloaded from MP3Quran (mp3quran.net) and from our own hosting. Quran text and translations are provided through AlQuran Cloud (api.alquran.cloud).
We do not claim ownership of the recitations, the translations, or the reciters’ names, likenesses or portraits. They remain the property of their respective reciters, publishers and rights holders, and they are made available here for personal listening.
The Quran itself is not our work and no ownership is asserted over it.
If you hold rights in any recitation, portrait or translation presented in Mustami and you would like it corrected or removed, write to us at the address at the end of these terms and we will act promptly.
5. Accuracy and availability of content
We take care with the catalogue, but we present content that we receive from third parties and we cannot guarantee it is complete or free of error.
In particular:
- Translations are interpretations. They are human renderings of meaning, not the Quran itself, and they differ between translators.
- Verse timing and read-along synchronisation are available only for some reciters and may drift or be imprecise.
- Reciter attributions, riwayat and biographical detail are drawn from public sources and may contain mistakes.
- Availability varies. Recitations are hosted by third parties; a reciter, a surah or the entire catalogue may become unavailable at any time and without notice.
You should not rely on Mustami for matters of religious ruling, recitation study or memorisation certification. For those, consult a qualified teacher.
6. Your device and your data
Mustami stores your favourites, playlists, listening statistics, downloads and settings on your own device. We do not hold a copy and we cannot restore them.
If you delete the app, clear your browser’s site data, or lose the device, that information is gone. There is no backup and no account to sign back into.
Downloads occupy storage on your device. Streaming and downloading use your network connection, and any data charges from your carrier are yours.
How we handle information is described in our Privacy Policy.
7. Notifications
If you enable them, Mustami schedules reminders locally on your device. You can disable them at any time in the app’s settings or in your device settings.
8. Price and changes to the app
Mustami is free to use. There is no subscription, no advertising and no in-app purchase.
We may add, change, suspend or remove features at any time, and we may stop offering Mustami altogether. We will try to give reasonable notice of a significant change, but we are not obliged to maintain any particular reciter, feature or the app itself indefinitely.
9. Third-party services
Mustami depends on services we do not control — MP3Quran, AlQuran Cloud, Cloudflare, PostHog and Apple among them. Their own terms and privacy policies apply to your use of them, and we are not responsible for their content, availability or conduct.
10. No warranty
Mustami is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free, or that any defect will be corrected.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or exemplary damages, or for any loss of data, profits, goodwill or device storage, arising out of or in connection with your use of Mustami — whether or not we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you for any claim relating to Mustami is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid for the app, which is zero, and (b) the minimum amount permitted by applicable law.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
12. Apple
The following applies to the iOS app:
- These terms are between you and us alone, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for Mustami or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support for Mustami.
- If Mustami fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to Mustami.
- Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to Mustami, including product liability claims, claims that Mustami fails to conform to a legal requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation.
- Apple is not responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement or discharge of any third-party claim that Mustami infringes intellectual property rights.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and, upon your acceptance, will have the right to enforce them against you.
13. Termination
You may stop using Mustami at any time by deleting it. We may suspend or end your licence if you breach these terms. Sections 4, 5, 10, 11, 12 and 14 survive termination.
14. Governing law
If you are a consumer resident in the EU or the UK, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your country of residence and may bring proceedings there. Otherwise these terms are governed by the laws applicable to the publisher, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top will change, and material changes will be noted in the app’s release notes. Continuing to use Mustami after a change means you accept the revised terms.
